DANCE REVUE 2011

Revue Information Packet

The purpose of the Revue Information Packet is to provide parents with the information they need to keep up to date with important events at the studio in order to make the rest of the dancing year a success. This packet is intended to replace the need for parents to attend repetitive Announcement Weeks and to provide teachers with more time for class work.

Please read the packet carefully and keep it for future reference. If you have any questions, teachers will address any concerns during the last 15 minutes of your dancers Observation Class:

Week of February 7 – 12…..Amelia, Carrie, Jackie, Melinda, Wendi

Week of February 14-19…...Angie, Devon, Karen, Kristi, Jeana, Marie

Week of February 21-24…...Addison, Corey, Mary Ann

COSTUMES

Final Costume Payment is due no later than Saturday, February 5. Your studio account (including lessons and costumes) must be paid to date for costumes to be sent home. It is expected that the majority of costumes will be arriving in late March or early April.

Tights…for pictures and the show should be either new or look like new with no runs or holes. All tights need to be provided by the dancer.

It is a good idea not to wait to purchase tights. As show time approaches, fewer sizes are readily available.

Shoes…must also be clean or new. Tights and shoes purchased from BRAVO are fine for class but not appropriate for the show.

Put your child’s name on all costumes parts including shoes and tights.

PICTURE WEEKEND SCHEDULE

In planning for our DANCE REVUE 2011, we are in the process of setting up our Revue Program Book. These books are given to all those who attend our Dance Revue. The Program contains pictures of all of the classes performing in the show. Photographs of the dancers make a more attractive program and a nice souvenir for our students.

Pictures will be taken at the dancing school on April 30-May 1. There is a Class Picture Fee of $9.00 per class. Each family will receive a CLASS PICTURE ENVELOPE to be returned to the studio with payment by Saturday, April 2. A schedule of times for the class pictures is included on the Class Picture Schedule page.

A family or a business may purchase an Ad and their child’s individual picture will appear in the book. More information and prices may be found on the REVUE BOOK INFORMATION PAGE.

At the time class pictures are taken, individual pictures of your dancer may also be taken to be purchased from the photographer. Various packages will be available. Princeton Studios is providing their own list of packages and prices in this packet. Order envelopes are available at the desk. The Photographer’s Order Envelope is due at the desk by Saturday, April 2.

Pictures are taken in costume and with make up.

Students should arrive at the studio 15 minutes before their scheduled picture time and be picked up 20 minutes after their appointment time. Hair and makeup should be fixed at home.

No parents are allowed to wait in the studio on picture weekend.

Costumes should be on hangers and covered with a plastic bag. Small parts of costumes can be put in a dance bag or even a brown paper handled bag with the dancer’s name on it.

Dancers should bring a make up bag with them that contains the makeup you applied at home, extra bobby pins, safety pins, and a comb or brush.

Moms will be at the studio to assist dancers with their costumes. Any Mom or older sister who would like to volunteer to help dancers dress for their pictures on Saturday, April 30 or Sunday, May 1, for a period of 2-4 hours is asked to leave their names at the desk or call the studio.

It is best for dancers to wear street clothes that are easily removed without messing up their hair or makeup.

Once again, tights and shoes must be clean and either new or look like new.

All boys in Scene 1 should arrive dressed and ready for their pictures.

SPECIAL INFORMATION FOR PRE BALLET CLASSES AND BOYS

Teachers of the Pre Ballet classes (Mon 4:30 Jackie, Tue 4:00 Karen, Sat 9:00 Wendi, Sat 9:00 Jeana, Sat 11:45 Wendi) will make special announcements to the parents regarding Picture Weekend, Special Class Rehearsals, Dress Rehearsals, and Showtime during their announcement weeks in February

.

ADDITIONAL MAKEUP AND HAIR INFORMATION

Show makeup and Picture makeup are a little different from each other only in that Show makeup is more intense to accommodate the lights on stage. On Picture Weekend your dancer’s makeup can be a little lighter. It’s a good idea to use a face cream such as Noxema to make removal easier. In general, you’ll need a base makeup, powder, taupe or brown eye shadow, eye liner, mascara, blush and an earth tone or red lipstick.

Dancers need to have their bangs pulled off their faces and have their hair secured to their head in either buns or French braids pinned up off their necks. Girls with short hair should pull their hair back as best they can using hair gel and spray. Getting the hair just right might require a little practice at home before picture day. Be sure the hairdo will accommodate all the dancer’s headpieces.

In March the studio will be playing a video tape showing appropriate make up and hair. You’re welcome to watch and get ideas from our “experienced” Moms who have been doing their daughter’s hair for years.  You can also visit our Online Introduction to Pre Ballet and Primary Ballet (on the homepage of the website) to view the video. ☺

TICKET LOTTERY

Tickets for the annual revue are handled on a lottery basis. As you start to think of whom you will invite to the show, you will need to verify the show(s) you wish to attend by finding your dancer’s CLASS DAY & TIME on the SHOW LINE UPS that will be posted on the bulletin board. Be sure to order tickets for the correct show. When you pick up your TICKET ORDER ENVELOPE you will find complete instructions for filling out your order request. “Special Access” seating will be available to those in wheel chairs. This request must be indicated on the front of the envelope and should be returned directly to Carol at the desk. DO NOT PLACE THE ENVELOPE IN THE DROP BOX. If two or more families wish to have seats together the envelopes should be stapled together. DO NOT put one order inside the other envelope.

Ticket Order Envelopes may be picked up at the desk beginning Monday, May 2. Orders are to be returned to the box at the desk by Monday, May 16 by 7:00 to be included in the lottery. Envelopes received after that time will be included in the “late arrival” draw. Tickets should be picked up and signed for at the front desk by a parent beginning May 23 during regular studio hours. All accounts must be paid in full before tickets can be picked up.

BACKSTAGE MOMS

Remember parents are not allowed backstage before the Show. BACKSTAGE MOMS assist the dancers and keep them occupied during the show. Approximately 30 moms are needed for each show to help the dancers get into their costumes and in the lineup backstage.

Please volunteer for a show in which your child is NOT performing. Remember all BACKSTAGE MOMS get a free, much coveted DANCE REVUE 2011 t-shirt.

A meeting for all BACKSTAGE MOMS will be held at the studio on Tuesday, June 7 at 7:00pm. T-shirts and assignments are handed out at the meeting.

To volunteer to be a BACKSTAGE MOM sign the sheet at the desk and include your phone number, the show(s) you will work, and your t-shirt size.

SPECIAL CLASS REHEARSALS

Two weeks prior to the show (weeks of May 30 and June 6) regular classes will be replaced by SPECIAL CLASS REHEARSALS.

SPECIAL CLASS REHEARSALS are held at the studio in practice clothes and replace your regular class time.

No parents are allowed to wait in the studio during these rehearsals.

A list of Special Class Rehearsal times will be included on the Special Class Rehearsal page.

DRESS REHEARSAL

Dress Rehearsal will be held during the week of June 13 at Churchill High School in the auditorium on Newburgh Road north of Joy Road.

A list of Dress Rehearsal times is included on the Special Class Rehearsal page.

Costumes should be on hangers and covered with a plastic bag. Small parts of costumes can be put in a dance bag or even a brown paper handled bag with the dancer’s name on it.

Dancers should bring a makeup bag with them that contains the makeup you applied at home, extra bobby pins, safety pins, and a comb or brush.

It is best for the dancers to wear street clothes that are easily removed without messing up their hair or makeup.

There are no Backstage Moms available at Dress Rehearsal. Parents will need to help their dancers make costume changes.

SHOW TIME

Dancers will be required to arrive at Churchill High School one hour prior to the performance.

It is best for the dancers to wear street clothes that are easily removed without messing up their hair or makeup.

Remember parents are NOT allowed backstage before the Show. BACKSTAGE MOMS assist the dancers and keep them occupied during the show.

·         As with all professional performances, it is a studio policy that dancers remain backstage until the show is over. This gives the parents a chance to enjoy the complete show while knowing their dancers are occupied and supervised backstage.
